After eight years lecturing in management and organisational behaviour at Edgehill University in Ormskirk, Keddy Banda decided it was time to leave the world of academia and enter the world of commerce.
Keddy who moved to the UK from Zambia 23 years ago, took a year out before joining Signarama Preston as sales manager. At the sign centre he helped to build up the business taking over the franchise in 2009 when David Allen retired.
Said Keddy: “With a lecturing background in business and management, I knew about the benefits of a franchise model. When David decided to retire the chance to head an exciting and thriving sign company in the region was great. I saw the huge potential and the prospect of being able to meet the challenges of business activity and the excitement of seeing a project through to completion and a customer satisfied.”
The Signarama brand is recognised worldwide and was well established in Preston. The first thing Keddy did was to go through the customer database and engage with as many previous customers as possible. He re-established contact with suppliers and let prospects know the business was under new ownership.
As a result, he has grown the business by 25% and is looking forward to citing a satellite office and show room in Manchester to expand the Signarama offer to a wider catchment area.
The new Manchester office will provide employment for two more people and if the pilot is a success, a full service Signarama store will be operating in North Manchester.
